Lancelin Ocean Classic Festival is excited to announce the launch of the Ledge to Lancelin Swimrun for 2020.
The Swimrun concept has been growing in popularity in WA over the last few years with the introduction of the Rottnest Island Swimrun and the Shoreline Swimrun series, taking place up and down the coast of Perth.
Swimrun originated in Sweden with the concept born out of a bet made between a few mates over beers. The challenge was to swim and run the length of the Stockholm Archipelago in Sweden with the competitors choosing pubs as checkpoints and opportunities to re-fuel. The sport of ÖTILLÖ was born, and has since grown into one of the fastest growing endurance events globally, with over 400 Swimrun events taking place each year.
Swimrun typically operates as an endurance Team event with competitors taking part in pairs covering the various swim and run sections of the course.
For 2020, the Ledge to Lancelin Swimrun will give competitors the opportunity to compete as a Team of 2 or individually, but we ask that you are able to swim up to 1KM un-aided. You’ll also need to make the decision of whether you swim with goggles and a pull buoy, because whatever gear you swim with you'll have to run with too (and vice versa). Please note for safety purposes appropriate shoes are compulsory.
Starting from Ledge Point the course will head north along Lancelin’s soft white sand and clear ocean water taking five 2KM run sections and four 500m swim sections, giving you a 12KM challenge for runners and swimmers of all skill level and ability. This is a great opportunity for those looking to experience the Swimrun sport for the first time.
