In 1986, a group of windsurfing enthusiasts got together at Ledge Point in Western Australia and raced 25kms to Lancelin. From humble beginnings, the Lancelin Ocean Classic is now one of the leading water sport championships.

The Lancelin Classic is held in one of Western Australia’s most beautiful coastal pockets. Picturesque and windy Lancelin is the ideal location for the event, attracting contestants from all around the globe and cementing the town’s status as one of the best windsurfing and kitesurfing destinations. The annual competition weekend brings together professionals and amateurs, fighting it out on the water for supremacy and a competitive prize pool.

In 2015, the Lancelin Ocean Classic established the Hall of Fame to celebrates its 30th anniversary. Inductees included long time racers of the 25km windsurf race.

Leading sports photographer John ‘JC’ Carter has captured the Lancelin Ocean Classic race and unique Lancelin area for a number of years. Take a peek at his work on Facebook.
